How can a career change course help me?

Career guidance programs for adults are few and far between, so you might be wondering how a career change course can help you. This story illustrates how it works. By Jacqui Ooi.

I love hearing from women who’ve done our career change course about the exciting changes they’ve made in their careers. Not only because it tells me our programs are working but it shows we’re helping women improve their wellbeing and make their unique mark on the world.

Recently, I heard from Amanda who’s made a brave leap after 20+ years of working for other people to work for herself. Here’s how she made it happen, with the support of our course.

“I was very fortunate to attend the first Career Change Kickstarter course. It came at a time when I had made the decision to leave a director-level role at a tech consulting company, which I’d loved for the past eight years but was no longer serving me. I took a career break to spend more time with my family, to 'just be a mum' for a while and have some clear-minded thought and planning around what I did next. Attending the course enabled me to think deeply and comprehend my value, my strengths and what I had to bring to the table that was unique.

“I honestly had little idea at first as to what my next career move would be. It was a daunting thought, and it would have been easy to continue with what I knew. The course challenged my beliefs that what had defined me in my career to date didn't need to be the continued way forward. It helped me dream big in the art of what's possible and then dissect it into how it could be achieved.

The course challenged my beliefs that what had defined me in my career to date didn’t need to be the continued way forward.

“Completing the course showed me that I could reinvent my career leveraging my skills and experience – the Money Matters module was a game changer. I channelled my thoughts further into what could be and decided that I was going to put it out there and see what would come. BOOM! It all started to fall into place. I continued to review the course content as putting it into practice helped lift my confidence and hold me accountable that I could make a career change.

“Three months after I completed the course, I started my own business, consulting with start-ups to optimise their end-to-end business operations and project delivery practices – two areas I'm very passionate about. I have two amazing clients and love what I'm doing in leading and enabling them to scale their businesses. It was the BEST decision for me to take a leap into a new career journey, and I thank Jacqui and the course for guiding and enabling me to do so.”

I love Amanda’s story because it has shown once again that when women are equipped with the knowledge and tools to take advantage of all the opportunities available now, we are an unstoppable force!

And there are two final points I wanted to leave you with about how our course works:

What our career change course won’t do

It won’t tell you what career choice to make – because there is no magic test that will give you the answers. Making good career decisions requires getting to know yourself, the opportunities available now and getting really clear about what you want for your future. You can learn how to do this with the right support.

What our career change course will do

It will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a career change that’s right for you, through a guided process of self-reflection and real-world action. It will also help you put in place proven strategies to make your career shift happen.

Best of all, these are skills you’ll carry with you for life so you can continue to make confident career decisions and transitions into the future. And these are essential skills we all need to have in our fast-changing world.

The Career Change Kickstarter course is a career education and guidance program, helping women develop the knowledge and skills to navigate change and build careers they love.
